Tokoname Enji Teapot


The Enji teapot has been skillfully crafted In Tokoname, a city on Japan’s eastern coast, where clay has been shaped by hand and flame for over a thousand years. The kilns are among the oldest in Japan and breathe life into Tokoname-yaki, pottery of a soft red hue born from iron-rich earth. When fired, the clay deepens to the color of warm brick, the surface matte with the occasional faint sheen of ash.

A kyusu, the traditional Japanese teapot, is both practical and poetic. The clay itself softens the tannins in tea, making the brew rounder, smoother, more forgiving. Inside, a fine mesh allows every drop to pour cleanly. With use, it is an object that feels almost alive and wonderfully familiar in the hand.
