Beautiful tools and accessories make any process a pleasure.  Kabazaiku, or cherry bark ware, has been woven into the history of northern Honshu for generations.  It is a labor intensive process requiring the bark of wild cherry trees; the bark of cultivated cherry trees is not tough enough.

 In fact, 18th century Samurai crafted cherry bark products as a secondary vocation. A samurai 'side-hustle', if you will.
