Mr. Konishi has outdone himself (again). Hanayaka Nagomiyutaka is a rare Japanese tea crafted from the Nagomiyutaka cultivar, developed in Miyazaki using elite regional varieties including Yabukita. With an overnight oxidation process inspired by fine oolongs, then finished in the traditional Japanese steaming style, it offers a layered, floral cup rich in calming theanine. 2025
Here we are, offering yet another organic masterpiece from our dear friend, Mr. Konishi.
This incredibly elegant tea is created from the Nagomiyutaka cultivar, an inspired crossbreed of distinguished Japanese cultivars from Fukuoka, Uji, Nara, Saitama and including the revered Yabukita. This rare cultivar was developed by the Miyazaki Prefecture Agricultural and Tea Experiment Station and officially registered in 2012. Originally grown in Kyushu, it reflects a deep respect for regional heritage, drawing genetic influence from various Japanese tea-growing regions. Naturally abundant in theanine, a calming amino acid prized for its soothing effect on the mind, this tea offers not only a nuanced cup, lush, floral, and softly green, but also a moment of quiet restoration.
What sets Hanayaka Nagomiyutaka apart is its thoughtful processing: after careful harvest of buds, stems, and leaves at their peak, the leaves are rested overnight under meticulously controlled temperature and humidity, gently stirred through the night in a method evocative of fine oolong production(!!). This allows subtle enzymatic oxidation to unfold, coaxing forth layered aromatics and complexity. The following day, the leaves are gently steamed in the traditional Japanese style to arrest oxidation, preserving the tea’s verdant essence and umami depth. BRILLIANT and EXTREMELY RARE.
